How the Riyadh Metro fare works
Riyadh Metro fares are flat and time-based — they do not depend on distance or on how many stations you pass. A 2-hour ticket at SAR 4 in Regular class buys you unlimited journeys on the metro and the buses together for as long as it is valid, and changing between lines is free. The First-class 2-hour ticket is SAR 10.
The key thing to understand is that a Riyadh ticket is not a single-ride ticket but a period of time: the 2-hour ticket gives you unlimited metro and bus travel for two hours from first use, whether you go one stop or right across the network, and whether you change once or three times. The same logic applies to the 3-day, 7-day and 30-day passes and the annual pass.

Classes on the Riyadh Metro
First class
SAR 10 for the 2-hour ticket. A separate car with a higher level of comfort and more space. Official notice: at peak times the authority does not guarantee a seat in the First class car. The ticket includes bus travel in Regular class.
Regular class
SAR 4 for the 2-hour ticket. Cars designed to suit individuals and families alike, with women-only areas set aside inside them — these are areas within Regular class at the same price, not a separate class.

Where to buy a Riyadh Metro ticket
darb app
Buy your ticket in the darb app on your phone and enter with a QR code. But note: the app sells tickets — it does not top up a darb card.
Ticket vending machines (TVMs)
In every metro station. They sell tickets, issue darb cards and top them up. They take cash (notes only), mada cards and credit cards.
Ticket offices
In metro stations and bus stations. This is where the registered card is issued — the one that gives you the 50% discount if you are in an eligible category, on presenting proof of eligibility.
The darb card
If you use the metro regularly, the darb card is the practical option: a contactless card you load with credit and tap straight through the gates. Find out what it costs, where to buy it, how to top it up and how to check your remaining balance.
