KAFD ↔ Airport T1-2

Line 4 (Yellow) is the Riyadh Metro’s airport line: nine stations over 29.6 km (18 mi) between KAFD and the terminals of King Khalid International Airport, north of the city. It sets off from KAFD — the network’s biggest interchange, shared with Lines 1 and 6 — and runs in a shared trunk with Line 6 through Ar Rabi, Uthman Bin Affan Road and SABIC. The two part after SABIC and Line 4 turns north for the two Princess Nourah University stations, PNU 1 and PNU 2, then the three airport stops in order: Airport T5, Airport T3-4 and, at the end of the line, Airport T1-2. With stations that far apart and most of the route elevated above King Abdulaziz Road and its northern extension, the ride is quick for the distance it covers. It is also the cheapest and steadiest way to the airport: a two-hour ticket at SAR 4 (about $1.07), untouched by whatever the airport road is doing. Along the way it serves Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University with two stations of its own, the SABIC headquarters, and the newer business and residential areas of north Riyadh, doing the job of an airport line and a northern suburban line at once. One thing to watch: because Lines 4 and 6 share those first four stations, the train at the platform may be heading east to An Naseem rather than north to the airport. Check for the yellow line and the destination on the screens before you board — especially with luggage.

Did you know?

  • Line 4 serves King Khalid International Airport with three separate stations — Airport T5, Airport T3-4 and Airport T1-2 — so as long as you know your terminal in advance there is no need to move between terminals after you get off.
  • Lines 4 and 6 share four complete stations from KAFD onwards: Ar Rabi, Uthman Bin Affan Road and SABIC. They only part company after SABIC, so make sure of the colour of the train before you board.
  • PNU 1 and PNU 2 serve the campus of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, described as the largest women's university in the world by capacity and campus area, and the only institution on the network with two stations to itself.

Interchanges and connections

King Khalid International Airport

Three stations inside the airport grounds serving Terminals 1 to 5, reached on an ordinary metro ticket costing SAR 4.

KAFD — interchange with Lines 1 and 6

The line's southern terminus and its link to the network's spine; passengers from Olaya, the city centre and the south reach the airport with a single change.

Shared trunk with Line 6

Ar Rabi, Uthman Bin Affan Road and SABIC are served by both lines, which doubles the number of trains over this stretch and lets you change between them at any of them.

Princess Nourah University

Two stations dedicated to the campus in north Riyadh, linking it to the airport to the north and to KAFD and the whole network to the south.

The two-hour ticket is flat across the Riyadh Metro and its buses: SAR 4 in Regular class and SAR 10 in First class, whatever the distance you travel.
Both lines start at KAFD and share Ar Rabi, Uthman Bin Affan Road and SABIC. After SABIC, Line 4 (Yellow) heads north to the airport while Line 6 (Purple) heads east towards Al Hamra and An Naseem. The split happens after SABIC.
The line is elevated for most of its length above the corridors of north Riyadh, and SABIC is the only station in a shallow tunnel.
