About Passport Department

Passport Department stands in the northern part of central Riyadh, along King Abdulaziz Road near Al Muorabba, where a cluster of government departments and public offices sits. Line 1 (Blue) is the only line serving it, and it is a deep tunnel station: the platforms lie below street level, reached through covered entrances that keep passengers out of the midday heat. People come here first and foremost for the General Directorate of Passports and the official bodies beside it — errands tied to fixed appointments, the kind that make driving at rush hour a gamble. The station lies between Al Muorabba and National Museum, which puts the change onto Line 5 (Green) one stop to the south, inside a single shared station rather than at the end of a walk. It belongs to a run of central stations named after the institution beside them rather than the district around them — Ministry of Interior, Passport Department and National Museum in sequence.

It sits between Al Muorabba and National Museum on Line 1.

It is a deep underground station and runs to the network hours: 5:30 am to midnight Saturday to Thursday, and from 10:00 am on Friday. The SAR 4 two-hour ticket covers the metro and the buses. Below you will find the station on the map, journey times, interchanges and facilities.

Frequently asked questions

Passport Department is on Line 1 (Blue) of the Riyadh Metro, which runs from SAB Bank to Ad Dar Al Baida.
Most are heading for the General Directorate of Passports and the official bodies around it in the Al Muorabba belt. Many use the metro precisely to sidestep the congestion on King Abdulaziz Road and the scramble for parking during official working hours, since appointments here run to a fixed time.
It is a deep tunnel station: the platforms lie below street level and are reached through covered entrances. That pattern holds across the Line 1 stations crossing the city centre, where the density of building and the width of the streets leave no room for a viaduct.
No — only Line 1 (Blue) calls here, the line crossing Riyadh from SAB Bank in the north to Ad Dar Al Baida in the south. National Museum, the next station south, is where you change: Line 5 (Green) shares that station with the Blue Line and terminates there.
Service at Passport Department station runs to the Riyadh Metro network hours: from 05:30 to 00:00 Saturday to Thursday, and on Friday from 10:00 to 00:00. Hours change during Ramadan and the Eid holidays and are announced at the time — check the schedule page before you travel.
Yes. There are ticket vending machines (TVMs) at Riyadh Metro stations, and you can buy a card or top it up there or at a ticket office. Note that the darb app does not top up the card balance — full details on the darb card page.
